A big fuck you to Microsoft and HP.

Microsoft, I get that you want to fuck Apple and Steve Jobs over. But please stop fucking over the users of your operating system at the same time. It should be possible to share a printer and a few files with reliability and stability. I should be able to share the printer using a protocol that would work well with the Mac (namely IPP). Yet you remove IPP from Windows 7 and fuck around with the file sharing so that Mac systems have difficulty connecting all of the time. Some of the time it works, some of the time it doesn't. Not fucking good enough.

HP, don't offer a printer that is supported on a Mac and then stop supporting it when the computer is upgraded to Snow Leopard. This is bullshit and has cause untold amounts of trouble and heartache. It has cause me and my wife to get frustrated at each other when your printer, purchased in good faith, is useless when connected to a Mac. We shouldn't have to connect it to the Windows 7 PC and then try and share it, also unreliably. Not fucking good enough.

Installing Linux has solved both these problems. It has generated more. For example, I can't play any of the games I like at the moment. I can't do skype podcast recording at the moment. If I can get hold of a second hand PC that will take some of the SATA drives that I have then I can set up a file and printer server which is what we need. However at this stage we will just have to deal with the cards we are dealt.

Lentil Rice creation

3 cloves garlic
1 large onion
1 x tin green/brown lentils, rinsed
1 x tin diced tomatoes
1 carrot, small cubes
1 zucchini, larger cubes
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp vegetta
1 cup water
two pinches basil
salt and pepper
2 tsp sour cream
1 cup cooked basmati rice

1. In a little olive oil, fry the garlic on medium heat until fragrant
2. Add onion and cook until becoming translucent
3. Add curry powder and paprika, stir to coat ingredients
4. Add lentils, carrot and zucchiniand cook for two to three minutes
5. Add tomatoes, vegetta and half the water. Cover and simmer for ten minutes
6. Add rice, basil and more water if mixture is becoming dry. Simmer for five more minutes.
7. Stir through sour cream and serve.

Serves 4

(rough idea so I don't forget this one - was very good)

2009 - Year of the Wombat

I'm glad to be home (even if I don't like the heat). I'll post more about the great time I had in Melbourne soon. However my time away from here and work has given me some new goals to achieve this year. Here they are (in no particular order).
  • Move into a new career path amenable to my career objectives
  • Develop a list of career objective/goals and categorise as short, medium or long term
  • Settle on a degree to study and complete it - consider studying externally through a university rather than OUA
  • Look at moving to Melbourne in the next twelve months
  • Start a new hobby
  • Attend yoga once a week
  • Join Toastmasters
  • Go walking for 30 minutes five times a week
  • Take some time to smell the roses occasionally
These aren't resolutions. I don't keep resolutions. These are just some things I'd like to do this year. I think I'll print this list out and put it somewhere super visible so I can see it every day.
